Das Stockholm-Syndrom

Grafikskolan Final Show at Atelierhof Kreuzberg in Berlin

Under the title Das Stockholm-Syndrom, Grafikskolan’s graduating students are exhibiting their final projects in Berlin. In a space of 150 square metres, the students will exhibit work through different forms of expression: a large installation consisting of a thousand screen printed cubes, a Kalashnikov sculpted from crochet lace cloth, movements transferred to print and video, twenty portraits of wolves and a pornographic book in Braille, to mention a few examples. Grafikskolan have done study trips to Berlin for years, and a contact has been established with Atelierhof Kreuzberg. Now the graduating students have been invited to exhibit at the premises and will gain a unique experience of international collaboration. Two artists with extensive experience both as exhibition organisers and international exhibitors, Leif Elggren and Andreas Ribbung, have been invited as curators. They will serve as a sounding board for the exhibitors, and will make the exhibition preparations an integrated part of the course for the first year students.

Grafikskolan is the only art school in the Nordic countries to focus on the artistic printmaking techniques: intaglio, stencil, relief, planographic. Today the school has 29 students in two different programs of study: Artists’ Books, and Printmaking (foundation course). The school was founded in 1984 and is now located in Hammarby Sjöstad, Stockholm.

Opening in Berlin: April 17, 2010. The exhibition continues until May 2, 2010.
Parts of the exhibition, as well as documentation will be exhibited in Stockholm in May.
Printmaking will exhibit at Grafiska Sällskapet, Hornsgatan 6, May 15–23.
Artists’ Books will exhibit at Galleri Hangups, Rutger Fuchsgatan 5 from May 21.
